Special Event Hike

Kolapore Uplands-Metcalf Rock in Beaver Valley, Grey County
with
Guelph Hiking Trail Club

  • Everyone needs to meet NO LATER THAN 7:45AM in Guelph Woodlawn Road Canadian Tire parking lot for check in.
  • 8:00 am - bus leaves for Kolapore Uplands


Hike details:

  • Hike occurs rain or shine.
  • Fee: cost of the trip is $20 which includes lunch and the cider sampling
  • Metcalf Rock is a beautiful area where a massive block is slowly separating from the main cliff leaving behind a crevice filled with tumbled rock, tenacious cedars, and a variety of ferns.  The summit of Metcalf Rock offers splendid views to the west over Kolapore Creek Valley.  We will hike part of the main Bruce Trail and the Chuck Grant Side Trail.  (map #25 Bruce Trail Guide) There are several bridges to cross along Mill Creek.
  • The hike is 10.5K and will take approximately three hours.  There will be a drop out point at 6K. This hike is rated Level 2 with a few sections rated Level 3 due to steep climbs or descents and rocky terrain.  Hiking boots and poles are strongly recommended.  Bring snacks, water, and insect repellent.
  • Lunch will be served at Justin’s Oven in Kimberly.  Your choices are:
    • Organic grass-fed beef burger with tomato, onions, homemade relish, pickles, cheese and bacon
    • Soft open-faced taco with jerk chicken, peppers, onion tomato, homemade salsa, and sour cream
    • Soft open- faced taco with beef and same condiments as above
    • Soft open-faced taco with jerk chicken, peppers, onion tomato, homemade salsa,and sour cream
    • Soft open-faced taco with hummus and same condiments as above
    All mains come with a Caesar Salad.  Desserts may be purchased if wanted.  There are also gluten free buns and corn tortillas available.

  • After lunch we will visit The Beaver Valley Orchard and Cidery for a short tour and tasting.  Cider will be available for purchase.  After the cidery we will return to Guelph.
