Irvine Gorge - Feb 21, 2010 - Led by Bill Mungall
« on: February 21, 2010, 07:23:08 PM »
Another beautiful day for a hike...sunny, a little above zero.  We met in the Canadian Tire parking lot, and car pooled out to Irvine Gorge in Elora, where we met several additional people that were arriving from Kitchener.

After gathering and sorting out XC skis and snowshoes, we began our descent down icy stairs into the gorge, which was by far the most dangerous part of the hike.

We gathered out on the ice and Bill ran over some features of the area and some safety issues.

About half skiiers and half snowshoers, we made our way a couple of kms up the Irvine Gorge, before turning around and heading back.  The scenery was beautiful, and we were treated to numerous frozen waterfalls along the way.

Eventually we made our way back to the icy staircase, and went to a local pub in Elora for some refreshment.

Described in the newsletter as 'A Winter Wonderland', this hike lived up to its billing, no pun intended, and was my new favourite of the this season.  Thanks Bill!
