Carpool:
Meet in the parking lot of the Galaxy Cinema, 485 Woodlawn Rd. W., near the Mandarin Restaurant: https://maps.app.goo.gl/JxHrGj7XVSTo3tGJ7 at 9:00 AM for a 9:15 AM departure to the trailhead. Barbara will be there to get you into a ride to the trailhead. Use of the carpool is encouraged because of limited parking at the trailhead. Contact Ron if you want to join the hike at the trailhead.
Hike Details:
Everyone is welcome to join this hike. Just make sure that the pace and distance are a fit for what you can do.
Total distance hiked will be about 12 Km, pace will be 4 Km/hr. Terrain is easy to moderate. There are some steep hills to climb.
The trailhead is near 1296 Carmel-Koch Rd. Wilmot Township. Meet there at 9:45 AM to join this hike. The hike will start at 10:00 AM.
Roadside parking is available on the south side of Carmel-Koch Rd., opposite the trailhead. The trailhead is on the Avon Trail, where the Avon Trail turns north into Schneider's Bush and away from Carmel-Kosh Rd. Look for a wide entrance with a chain spanning two posts at the entrance, a white turn blaze and an Avon Trail sign.
We will begin by following the Avon Trail, continuing to wind our way on a network of intersecting, unmarked trails. We will be using the AllTrails app to navigate the trails. We'll visit a memorial to Fred Schneider, have a look from the lookout near the memorial and then navigate our way to a lookout over Sunfish Lake. Finally we'll navigate our way to a trail exit to make a loop out of this hike.
Hike Leaders Invited to Participate:
This will be an extended version of a hike which was led on May 20. There is a pre-defined route, but we will also be looking to hike trails not already on that route. For hike leaders joining this hike, this is an opportunity to hone your skills using the All Trails app, navigating a complex system of unknown or unmarked trails. For everyone else, if you enjoy exploring an unknown area, finding new trails, then this hike is for you!

What to Bring:
At least 1L of water, snacks, bug and tick repellant, sunscreen, sunhat, rain jacket. Hiking boots required. Hiking poles optional. No dogs please.
