Hike name: Cataract, Trestle Bridge, and Aboyne Trails – Fergus/Elora

Date:  Sunday, May 5, 2024

Hike start time: 9am at trailhead on Gerrie Road, Elora

Hike end time – 11:30am

Hike description: Starting from the beginning of the Elora Cataract Trail, we will hike to Fergus then loop back on the Trestle Bridge trail to view the Poorhouse Cemetery and the Grand River. We will then go down the stairs to hike around the Aboyne trail then rejoin the Trestle Bridge Trail and go along the Museum Trail and return the parking lot on the Elora Cataract Trail. We will stop to view the Poorhouse Cemetery and have a snack by the Grand River.

Trail conditions: The Cataract Trail and Trestle Bridge Trail are both relatively flat and dirt packed. The Aboyne Trail is through a forest and the trail is uneven with rocks and roots. There are 3 staircases on the trails. No dogs please.

Pace: 4km/hr, approximately 8km, 2-2 ½ hours

Parking: on Gerrie Road, Elora – parking is limited.

Directions to parking lot: Take Highway 6 north to Fergus, continue straight on Tower St. South, turn left on St. Andrew St. West, continue along Wellington Rd 18 then turn right on Gerrie Rd. Parking lot is on the right, approximately 250m. If you get to the four way stop (Gerrie’s Market), you have gone too far.

Required: hiking shoes, dress for the weather

Recommended: water, snack, sunscreen, bug spray
